Unit of Equal Access University of Ioannina
The Unit of Equal Access for people with disabilities and people with special educational needs of the University of Ioannina was established to cover a lack that existed at the University of Ioannina for equal access to infrastructure and educational processes. In this way means and tools are provided for everyone and especially for students who for various reasons face difficulties in their studies.
The main goal of this Service is the creation of a propitious educational environment within the University of Ioannina in order to support Students that for medical or other social reasons are facing functional and educational issues that prevent them from completing their studies.

| Σύντομη Περιγραφή: | At the University of Ioannina, an administrative structure operates under the name “Equal Access Unit for Persons with Disabilities and Persons with Special Educational Needs,” in accordance with Article 209 of Law 4957/2022. The mission of the Equal Access Unit is to ensure the full participation of members of the university community who are persons with disabilities and persons with special educational needs in all educational, research, and administrative activities. |
| Στόχοι: | The Equal Access Unit is the evolution of the "Accessibility and Social Support Unit for Students with Disabilities and Students from Vulnerable Social Groups (VSG) of the University of Ioannina," which was established in 2019 and funded through the Operational Programme "Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning 2014–2020." The project concerns the operation of the Equal Access Unit until 2029 and aims to increase the admission rate of students with disabilities and special educational needs to the University of Ioannina (as it has been shaped following its merger with the former Technological Educational Institute of Epirus), to support currently enrolled students with disabilities (SwD) or special educational needs (SEN) in completing their studies, and to raise awareness and provide training within the academic community. |
| Expected Results: | The main expected outcome is to ensure the full participation of students with disabilities and students with special educational needs in all educational, research, and administrative activities of the University of Ioannina (in Ioannina, Arta, and Preveza), with the ultimate goal of supporting the smooth completion of their studies. Indirect benefits also arise for all members of the university community (teaching, research, technical, and administrative staff), both through the establishment of a supportive educational and administrative environment, and through the awareness and sensitization activities on disability and accessibility issues carried out by the Equal Access Unit. |
